♨️ Pressure Cooker

A pressure cooker is a sealed vessel rated for 15 PSI and 250°F. That makes it an autoclave, a reactor, a vulcanizer, and a dozen other things it was never sold as.

A pressure cooker is an overengineered miracle hiding in every thrift store kitchen aisle. It's a thick-walled vessel with a locking lid, a silicone gasket rated for pressure and heat, a calibrated pressure relief valve, and enough structural margin to hold 15 PSI at 250°F for hours without complaint. Laboratories pay hundreds for vessels with those exact specs. Hospitals pay thousands for autoclaves that do the same thing with a fancier control panel.

The physics don't care what's on the label. Fifteen PSI of steam at 250°F sterilizes surgical instruments just as well inside a $12 Goodwill pressure cooker as inside a $3,000 medical autoclave. The same sealed environment that tenderizes a roast also forces stabilizing resin deep into punky wood blanks, cures rubber vulcanization compounds, drives hydrothermal crystal growth, and superheats water past its normal boiling point for chemistry that's impossible at atmospheric pressure.

Every build in this category starts the same way: buy a pressure cooker at a thrift store for the price of a sandwich, then use it for something the manufacturer never imagined. The safety systems are already built in — the relief valve, the locking lid, the gasket. You're not building a pressure vessel from scratch. You're repurposing one that already passed safety testing for a much more boring application.
